Spain is considered to be one of the largest wine producing nations of the world. If statistics are to be believed then Spain is the third largest producer of wine in world, the largest being Italy and France. There is a huge region dedicated to the Spanish wine produced in Spain however due to infertile land and large spacing in the crops, the output is low. This is the main reason why Spain is at third rank.
However Spanish white wine is renowned as being a good white wine when compared with the rest of the marketplace. It's now easier than ever to buy the best white wine on line and the Spanish white wine is one of the most popular.
There are over six hundred varieties of grapes planted across Spain for wine production however most of the wine is produced from main twenty types of grapes. This production totals up to almost eighty percent of Spain's total wine production. Spanish wine was exported widely during the Roman Empire. Talking about the main crops of Spain, after cereals and olives, grapes are the grown in largest quantities in Spain. After all this also, it still remains the third largest producer of some of the best white wine. The reason apart from the ones mentioned above is the dry climate in the nation. Only one third of the production actually gets exported. The good news is that this ratio is increasing continuously.
The main importers of Spanish wine are Germany, United Kingdom and United States of America. Spain produces both red wine and good white wine; however, it exports more of the red wine. If we look at the statistics, Spain produces more of white wine grapes; still the export is more of red wine. The reason is that the best white wine is used to prepare Sherry and brandy as well.
One of the most famous wines in Spain is Rioja wine. This particular wine is produced in areas of La Rioja and also named after it. Apart from this place, it is also produced from the grapes grown in Navarre and Basque. One significant thing about Rioja wine is that they are produced using Oak. Originally people in grapes farming used French oak for wine however later on people started using American oak as well. As known to many, wines are always classified in categories. Rioja wine is also classified in four categories. The first one is simply names or labelled as Rioja. This one is the youngest wine with within one year in oak barrel.
